Bringing Rain Review(I was there) by Betty

Everyone who thinks Bringing Rain is about highschool needs to take another look. The whole movie is metaphorical, and it could be about any age group. It’s more like a jail movie than a highschool movie. It’s about freedom and trying to get free from one’s past and one’s future and one’s hurt. Also, JM Vargas didn’t even name the cast correctly. The character of Reb is not played by Ben Buschel, but by Rodrigo Lopresti. And I thought Rodrigo Lopresti did an amazing job, as did Larisa. Another big problem I have with JM Vargas’ review is that he thinks Larisa is enjoying her life in the movie, as the character of Ori. In fact, Ori is suffering as much as the rest of them, even though she is not smoking cigs. That’s the point. Though she just chews gum, she too isn’t being honest about who she is. She’s pretending to be innocent but she’s not, she’s growing up and doesn’t want to grow up. So she’s no different then the rest of the cast in that she is hiding her true self. As Reb is by hiding his painting, as Clay is by hiding his sscar, as Niesha is by hiding her leg, as Atlee is by hidding his acne, as Cunningham is by hiding the little girl in her under the coke habit. This movie should be taken alot more seriously than it was by Jm Varagas. Vargas also talked about the pacing and slowness. C’mon now. I didn’t notice any awkward pauses. I thought it moved a lot like real life, rather than TV, which Mr. Vargas obviously watches too much of.
