1. In the tradition of "Clueless," the dialogue
in "10 Things" is packed with big words, pop-culture references, and
funny one-liners. This is part of what Larisa liked about the
project. "... I completely connected with this script because it
presents a smarter, somewhat cynical view of the politics of high
school." Cynical is right! Listen for the influence of "Southpark's"
Cartman when Larisa refers to someone as a "crack whore" while
talking to her dad and her sister. Now, you would *think* she'd keep
it mellow, since her other character just got detention for swearing
on "3rd Rock from the Sun!" Just kidding Larisa! ;-)
2. Renaissance girl Julia Stiles has two more
Shakespearean films coming out in 1999. She will first appear
opposite Ethan Hawke in a new version of "Hamlet." Next fall, watch
for her alongside Andrew Keegan and Josh Hartnett in "O," a movie
based on "Othello" which centers around high school basketball.
3. Though the producers had originally planned to shoot in
Los Angeles, "10 Things" was filmed on location in Tacoma,
Washington, with Puget Sound and the city of Seattle as its gorgeous
backdrop. The reason for this major change? To use Tacoma's Stadium
High School as the setting of the fictional Padua High. Cast member
Joseph Gordon-Levitt couldn't believe he was looking at an actual
school when he arrived on set. "I attended a Los Angeles public
school, and many L.A. public schools look like jails. This is like a
castle. It fits perfectly with the fairy tale feel of the movie."
