| The main
idea behind the tour was to raise awareness about the
number of adults and children across America with
reading and writing difficulties. As well as just
drawing attention to the problem, GTE, Larisa and the
Yellow Pages were also trying to recruit as many
individuals as possible to become literacy volunteers.
The day began early for Larisa when she had the
opportunity to take a look around the Aqarium of the
Pacific before it officially opened to the public.

 Did you know that there are more than 40 million
adults in the United States who lack literacy skills? In
California 24% of residents are functionally illiterate!
It's a pretty scary situation and one that Larisa was
eager to help with.
